SPLENDID!! MARVELOUS! These are the words Laurel would have used to describe the gathering at her home on Saturday 2nd to celebrate her life.
The weather was made to order, and what a wonderful gathering of people from so many aspects of Laurel’s life.
So many stories, memories, and connections, spanning decades of Australian dance history, and indeed history in the making.
FAREWELL TO AN AMAZING WOMAN. WE WILL MISS YOU MISS MARTYN.
IADMS Meeting 2013, Seattle USA
What a fantastic program!! So many sessions to choose from, such a variety, impossible to attend them all.
Favourite sessions included – “Exploring FM Alexander’s concept of ‘antagonistic action’ through the double spiral musculature of the body” (Movement session), Rebecca Nettl-Fiol and Luc Vanier; “Correlation between static and dynamic core strength and injury in collegiate dancers over one semester”, Matthew Grierson; “The emotional intelligence profile of vocational dance students: identifying criteria for promoting self-development and well-being”, Antoinette van Staden.
Our stand was very busy. USA teachers loved LMDTS – why not, it’s so comprehensive and logical.
Congratulations to Janet Karin OAM, the new president of IADMS, to Debra Crookshanks, new board member, and to all the Aussies who presented at the meeting, especially LMDTS teachers Jane Andrewartha, Alice Hobden and Terrie wayside.
2014 IADMS meeting is in Basel, Switzerland. If you are a dance teacher at any level, this is for you!! There is a Special Interest Group Day for teachers as well as the 3 days of the meeting.
Look on the IADMS website for further information: www.iadms.org
Right from the start, the Laurel Martyn Dance Teaching System recognises that creative expression is an essential component of dance, for every body. In addition, a thorough understanding of the basic structure and movements of the body is developed as a basis for the subsequent introduction of specific techniques.
Our holistic system and creative approach to dance teaching are based on the work of Laurel Martyn OBE, a foremost pioneer of dance performance and teaching in Australia.
